I Made These Noun Posters for My Son's Class 3 — and Now They're Yours Too!

By Ganga  ·  RandomTyms  ·  Class 3 English Grammar Series

My younger one — Diyan, Class 3 — had a grammar revision session coming up, and like every parent who's ever scrambled the night before, I wanted to give him something visual. Something he could look at once and actually remember, not a wall of notes to re-read three times.

So I sat down and made these three posters on Nouns. One turned into two, two turned into three, and before I knew it I had a full mini-series covering everything Class 3 CBSE expects a child to know about Nouns — from the very basics to possessives.

๐Ÿ“Œ What Grade / Curriculum Is This For? These posters are aligned to the Class 3 CBSE English grammar syllabus. They work beautifully as classroom display posters, revision aids, or a quick visual reference stuck on a child's study wall.

What's Covered Across the 3 Posters

๐Ÿท️

What Is a Noun?

Person, Place, Animal, Thing, Idea — with everyday examples kids relate to.

๐Ÿ“‚

Types of Nouns

Common, Proper, Collective, and Abstract — clearly defined with visuals.

1️⃣2️⃣

Singular & Plural

Rules for +s, +es, +ies, and irregular forms with example words.

♂️♀️

Gender Nouns

Masculine, Feminine, Common, and Neuter — colour-coded for easy recall.

๐Ÿ”ข

Countable & Uncountable

The key rule: can you put a number before it? Simple, visual, memorable.

๐Ÿ‘œ

Possessive Nouns

's for singular owner, ' for plural — with examples like "Riya's bag" and "girls' books".

Poster 1 — Nouns: Naming Words

Class 3 noun poster showing person, place, animal, thing and idea examples with Find the Nouns activity
Poster 1 of 3
NOUNS — Naming Words
The foundation poster. Starts with the definition — "A noun is the name of a person, place, animal, thing or idea" — and breaks each category down with illustrations. The "Find the Nouns!" activity at the bottom makes it interactive even as a wall poster. Great for a first introduction to the topic.
Person Place Animal Thing Idea / Feeling Activity: Circle the Nouns

I wanted the first poster to feel welcoming — not overwhelming. Children at Class 3 level already know nouns, they just haven't put a name to them. So this poster is really about connecting what they already know to the word "noun." That's why I kept examples like Chennai, Tiger, Happiness — things familiar to a Tamil Nadu child's everyday world.

Poster 2 — Types of Nouns

Class 3 types of nouns poster covering common, proper, collective and abstract nouns with practice activity
Poster 2 of 3
Types of Nouns
Once children know what a noun is, this poster classifies them. Common vs Proper, Collective vs Abstract — four boxes, four clear rules, four sets of examples. The "Let's Practice!" tick exercise at the bottom is perfect for a quick self-check.

The one thing I find children confuse most is Abstract Nouns — because they can't see happiness or courage. So the icons matter a lot here. A glowing heart for kindness, a shield for courage, a lightbulb for wisdom — it gives the invisible a visual anchor, and that's what sticks.

๐Ÿ’ก A note on Proper Nouns for Indian children I deliberately kept examples like Chennai, Ganga, and India in the Proper Noun section. Children learn faster when their own world appears in the textbook — or in this case, on the wall.

Poster 3 — Nouns Part 2 (The Advanced Set)

Class 3 advanced noun poster covering singular plural, gender nouns, countable uncountable and possessive nouns
Poster 3 of 3
Nouns — Part 2
The most information-dense of the three, but still very visual. Covers four concepts in one A3 layout — Singular & Plural (with rules), Gender Nouns (colour-coded), Countable & Uncountable, and Possessive Nouns. The "Let's Practice!" section at the bottom has four quick revision questions — perfect for a 5-minute self-test before an exam.
Singular & Plural Rules +s / +es / +ies / Irregular Gender: M / F / Common / Neuter Countable vs Uncountable Possessive 's and ' 4-Question Practice

I find the Gender Nouns section particularly useful because children often see questions like "Write the feminine of lion" or "Is 'student' masculine or feminine?" in their papers.

The Possessive Nouns section also has a question built right into the practice area: "The bag of Priya = ___" — because converting "of" phrases to possessives is a very common exam question at this level.

Why I'm Sharing These Here

Honestly? Because I put real effort into these and didn't want them sitting in a folder somewhere after Diyan's revision was done. If it helped my child remember his nouns, maybe it'll help yours too.

These posters were made with our Lokesh & Varsha characters — the same animated siblings from our RandomTyms Tamil educational channel. Lokesh is the chaotic younger one, always curious. Varsha is the calm, knowledgeable elder sister. They show up in all our Smart English content, and it felt right to have them anchor the grammar series too.

๐Ÿ–จ️ How to Use These Posters Print at A3 size for best results — the layout is designed for that format. You can also display them on a tablet or laptop screen during revision. Each poster is a standalone unit, so feel free to use all three together or just the one relevant to your child's current topic.
๐Ÿ“บ More Like This on RandomTyms We make Tamil-language animated educational videos for children on our YouTube channel. If your child enjoys learning through stories and characters, do check out the Lokesh & Varsha Smart English series — same fun, but with Tamil explanations and lots of animation. What's Coming Next

This Nouns series is part of a larger Class 3 English Grammar poster collection I'm building with Lokesh and Varsha. Pronouns, Verbs, and Adjectives are already in the pipeline. I'll be posting them right here as I complete them — so bookmark this blog or follow the channel to get them as they go up.

And if you're a teacher, a parent, or a homeschooler who finds these useful — share away. That's the whole point. ๐ŸŒŸ
